Why can't Afghan policy analysis rely on English-language sources?
Because the most consequential material is never published in English. Ministry documents, local reporting, and the way a policy is actually argued exist in Pashto and Dari, and a translated summary is not the same as reading the source. Ariana Nexus works from Pashto primary sources and Dari policy documents in the language they were written in.
Can a Farsi-speaking researcher cover Dari-language sources?
Not dependably. Afghanistan Dari and Iranian Persian diverge in vocabulary, register, and political idiom, and a Persian-trained reader can misjudge tone, affiliation, or intent in an Afghan text. Ariana Nexus assigns Afghan researchers to Afghanistan Dari sources and records which variety a document is in.
Is Hazaragi a separate language for research sourcing?
Hazaragi is a dialect of Dari, not a separate language — but it matters for sourcing, because Hazara communities are often the subject of the policy question rather than its audience. Ariana Nexus records the variety a source speaks instead of flattening it into a single Dari label.
How is evidence gathered without an in-country footprint?
Through the diaspora and through primary material, not through a field office. Ariana Nexus has no office or operations in Afghanistan. Afghan diaspora evidence is gathered from communities outside the country and combined with documents read in-language, and the limits of that method are stated so a reader can weigh what the evidence does and does not support.
How is nonpartisanship maintained in Afghan policy research?
