Why Afghan business owners choose Ariana Nexus

Your language, start to finish

Meetings, document requests, explanations and the walkthrough of every return before you sign: in Pashto, Dari or 22 more Afghan languages, and in plain English. Afghan Dari, not Iranian Persian.

Scholars, not a lone bilingual bookkeeper

The practice is operated and led by people who studied at Cornell, Brown, the University of Chicago and the University of British Columbia, working with tax, accounting and payroll professionals.

One team for all three

Books feed payroll and payroll feeds the tax return. One engagement team holds all three, so nothing is lost between vendors who never speak. Every part is produced by our own people.

We know how Afghan businesses run

Cash-heavy days, family members on payroll, supplier invoices in Dari or Urdu, money sent to family abroad, interest-free financing: we have seen it, and we record it correctly.

Security held to federal rules

A SAM.gov-registered firm operating under a written information security plan. Your records never travel by WhatsApp or email, and never through channels controlled by the de facto authorities in Afghanistan.

Planning, not only filing

Quarterly reviews, projections and decisions on entity structure, owner pay, financing and expansion into a new state, made before the deadline, not after.
Ariana Nexus is a Washington, D.C. consulting and professional services firm serving the Afghan context in 24 Afghan languages. Its Private Enterprise practice prepares taxes, keeps books and runs payroll for Afghan-owned businesses across the United States.

How we protect your records: vault, sign-in and access

Tax preparers are financial institutions under federal law. We run the practice that way: one vault, strong sign-in, named access and written rules.

Where your records live

  • Encrypted client vault
On Microsoft 365, in U.S. data centers for U.S. clients.
  • Your named engagement team
The only people who can open your file, with every access logged.
  • Europe
    GDPR and UK GDPR.
  • Canada
    PIPEDA.
  • Australia
    The Australian Privacy Principles.

Where they never go

  • WhatsApp
  • Text messages
  • Email attachments
  • Channels controlled by the de facto authorities in Afghanistan
  • Training data for AI models

Vault

  • Encrypted client vault: files encrypted in transit and at rest, on Microsoft 365 in U.S. data centers for U.S. clients.
  • No tax documents by WhatsApp, text message or email attachment, in either direction.
  • Records kept to IRS and Department of Labor retention schedules, then destroyed with a record of destruction.

Sign-in

  • Multi-factor sign-in for every client and staff account.
  • Conditional access that blocks unknown devices and unexpected locations.

Access

  • Least privilege: only your named engagement team can open your file.
  • Every file access logged; access reviewed quarterly and removed the day someone leaves.
  • Community-privacy check: name anyone who must never see your file, and we wall it off.

Rules we follow

  • A written information security plan under the FTC Safeguards Rule (16 CFR Part 314), built on IRS Publications 4557 and 5708, with a designated Qualified Individual.
  • Internal Revenue Code Section 7216: no use or disclosure of your tax information without your signed consent.
  • An incident response plan, with notice to you, the IRS and the FTC as the rules require.
  • Background checks, confidentiality agreements and annual security training for everyone on your file.

Boundaries

  • Never routed through channels controlled by the de facto authorities in Afghanistan.
  • GDPR and UK GDPR for clients in Europe, PIPEDA in Canada and the Australian Privacy Principles in Australia.
  • Your data is never used to train AI models. AI tools read documents inside our own environment, and a person reviews every entry.
  • Registered federal contractor on SAM.gov: UEI M2UDMUDFXGL9, CAGE 1Z3A3.

How an engagement works

  1. Week 1

    Confidential consultation

In person at our Washington, D.C. office or by video, in your language. We learn the business, its entities and states, and what is behind or at risk.
  2. Week 1 to 2

    Diagnostic and fixed-fee proposal

We review recent returns, books and payroll reports, then propose scope, timeline and a fixed fee in writing.
  3. Week 2

    Engagement and authorizations

Engagement letter, Section 7216 consent and the IRS authorizations the work needs: Form 8821 or 2848 for tax, Form 8655 for payroll filings.
  4. Week 2 to 3

    Secure onboarding

Your vault opens with multi-factor sign-in. We send a document checklist in your language and connect bank, card and payroll feeds read-only.
  5. Weeks 2 to 8

    Clean-up and catch-up

Prior periods reconciled, unfiled returns prepared and open notices answered, so monthly work starts from clean books.
  6. Every month

    Monthly rhythm

Books closed each month, payroll run every cycle, deposits and filings made on schedule, and an owner summary in your language.
  7. Every quarter and year

    Year-round tax and planning

Quarterly reviews and estimates, returns prepared and walked through with you before you sign, and next year planned before it starts.

Our service standards

  • First response within one business day.
  • Books closed and reconciled by the 15th of the following month.
  • Every federal and state payroll tax deposit made on or before its due date.
  • Every return reviewed by a second, senior reviewer before you see it.
  • Every return filed, or extended, before its deadline.
  • One named engagement manager, and a fixed fee in writing.

Every engagement starts with a confidential diagnostic and a fixed fee agreed in writing. We do not bill by the hour, and we do not start work we have not scoped.

Most of our clients are owner-led companies with employees, more than one entity or operations in more than one state, and owners who want a standing finance function rather than a once-a-year filing.
We work in the software you already use, including QuickBooks Online, Xero, Gusto, ADP, Square, Clover, Toast, Shopify and Amazon Seller Central, or we set up and migrate your books for you.

Questions owners ask about Afghan business tax, bookkeeping and payroll

Do you have accountants who speak Pashto and Dari?

Yes. Every meeting, document request and explanation can be in Pashto or Dari, with Pashto-speaking and Dari-speaking specialists on your engagement team, and we match the dialect your family speaks. Many Afghans call Dari by the name Farsi; our specialists work in the Afghan Dari you speak, not Iranian Persian. We also work in 22 more Afghan languages, in English, and in French, German, Spanish, Italian, Hebrew, Urdu, Arabic, Hindi, Portuguese, Chinese, Russian, Turkish and Swedish.

Can you handle taxes, bookkeeping and payroll for a business in any U.S. state?

Yes. We work across all 50 states and Washington, D.C., including businesses that operate in more than one state. We file state income and franchise tax returns, register and file payroll withholding and unemployment accounts, and handle sales and use tax wherever you have an obligation. You can meet us in person in Washington, D.C. or work with us entirely online.

How much do tax preparation, bookkeeping and payroll services cost?

Every engagement is priced as a fixed monthly or project fee after a confidential diagnostic. The fee reflects your transaction volume, the number of employees, entities and states, and whether earlier years need catch-up work. You receive the fee and scope in writing before any work begins, and we do not bill by the hour.

I am behind on my books or have not filed for several years. Can you help?

Yes. We rebuild the books from bank, card and payroll records, prepare the unfiled returns, and work with the IRS and your state on penalties and payment plans where they apply. We confirm what each agency expects before filing, so you see the full picture before you sign anything.

I received a letter from the IRS. What should I do?

Do not ignore it, and keep the envelope. Send it to us through your secure vault; we explain it in your language and answer it before its deadline, whether it is a CP2000, CP14, CP504 or a state notice. Representation in an examination is handled by a credentialed practitioner authorized on Form 2848.

Do you handle trucking taxes such as IFTA and Form 2290?

Yes. We prepare quarterly IFTA fuel tax returns and Form 2290 heavy highway vehicle use tax, which is due August 31 for trucks first used in July. We also track per diem, keep owner-operator settlements reconciled and issue the 1099s your drivers and contractors need.

Can you run payroll for a restaurant with tipped employees?

Yes. We handle tip reporting, Form 8027, the FICA tip credit and the separate reporting of qualified tips on 2026 Forms W-2. That reporting lets your employees claim the federal deduction of up to $25,000 in qualified tips for 2025 through 2028.

How do you keep my financial information secure?

Your documents go into an encrypted client vault with multi-factor sign-in, never by WhatsApp, text message or email attachment. Only your named engagement team can open your file, every access is logged, and we operate under a written information security plan, as federal law requires of tax preparers. We never use or disclose your tax information without your signed consent.

Who prepares and reviews my tax return?

An IRS-registered preparer with a current PTIN prepares it, a senior reviewer checks it, and we walk you through it in your language before you sign Form 8879 to authorize e-filing. Nothing is filed until you approve it.

Do you work with Afghan-owned businesses in Canada, Europe or Australia?

Yes, depending on the work. For owners with companies or family in Canada, the United Kingdom, Germany, the Netherlands, Sweden, France, Austria or Australia, we keep books and payroll records to local standards and coordinate the U.S. side of cross-border filings. Where local law reserves a filing to a locally registered agent, we say so at the start and scope the work accordingly.

Can you prepare financial statements for an SBA or bank loan?

Yes. We prepare lender-ready profit and loss statements, balance sheets and cash-flow statements, assemble the tax returns and schedules a lender asks for, and answer the lender's questions about your books.

What changed for small-business taxes and payroll in 2026?

Payments to contractors are now reported on Form 1099-NEC or 1099-MISC at $2,000 or more, up from $600. Workers can deduct qualified tips, up to $25,000, and qualified overtime, up to $12,500 or $25,000 on a joint return, for 2025 through 2028, and employers report those amounts separately on 2026 Forms W-2. We apply each change to your payroll and returns.

Which accounting and payroll software do you work in?

We work in the software you already use, including QuickBooks Online, Xero, Gusto, ADP, Square, Clover, Toast, Shopify and Amazon Seller Central, or we set up and migrate your books for you.

Do you also prepare personal returns, ITIN applications and FBAR filings?

Yes, through our individual tax practice. When your business income flows to your personal return, the same team coordinates both, so your Schedule C, K-1s and household filings tell one consistent story.
